Attention, gratitude, friendship, courage, rest, forgiveness, beauty, grief, service, celebration, wonder, belonging and joy become lived disciplines.

The Initiative is the emerging public vehicle for conversations, gatherings, practices and institutions capable of carrying these capacities forward.
THE CENTRAL DISTINCTION
The sacred does not have to disappear when supernatural certainty does.
Religion and spirituality are often discussed as though the only serious options were literal belief or total dismissal. Sacred Ideas explores a third possibility.
Take the human capacities, practices, histories and symbolic achievements seriously while remaining honest about what we can and cannot know.
That does not mean pretending all religions secretly teach the same thing. Their differences are real. Their histories include insight and domination, beauty and fear, compassion and exclusion, moral genius and moral failure.
Nor does it mean smuggling supernaturalism back into a scientific picture of reality.
The project is interested in what remains when we stop confusing the container with the fire.
Wonder remains. Love remains. Grief remains. The need to belong remains. The moral problem of how we should treat one another remains. Consciousness remains one of the strangest facts about the universe we actually know.
The task is to ask what human beings learned to cultivate through religion, what should be abandoned, what can be retrieved, and what new forms might become possible when intellectual honesty is treated as part of the sacred rather than its enemy.
