It asks whether the human capacities once interpreted as light descending from heaven may also be understood as fire awakening within nature: matter becoming living, life becoming conscious, consciousness becoming capable of care, judgment, creativity, reverence and transformation.
The book places that proposal in conversation with major religious traditions and with the philosophical problem of consciousness itself.
